My Family Trandition Essays - 849 Words

There are many traditions in my family that we take part in. Some are sports such as baseball, basketball and football. others are holiday traditions such as Christmas and the Fourth of July. Many people have traditions that have been passed down from their ancestors but some traditions are what they have created as a family. I have lots of each of these but a few that I have chosen are Christmas traditions like Christmas trees and stockings. Others are baseball or the fourth of July. We all have traditions we love doing and many we all share with each other. First I will talk about baseball. Baseball is said to be the national pastime of America. Baseball dates back all the way to the 19th century some say it started in England†¦show more content†¦a little bit after the war ended there was a baseball player name Jackie Robinson. he was the first black man to play professional baseball with other white men. everybody hated him and wanted to get him out but little did they know he would revolutionize the sport. Like baseball, Basketball is a beloved american sport. Although it was made in the U.S.A. it was made by a Canadian doctor James Naismith. The sport goes even further back than this though. It was about 500 years ago and the Mexican Aztecs and Mayan people would play a similar sport where instead of a basketball they would use a decapitated skull of their defeated foes. the first basketball game that we play and know was on January 20th 1892. James Naismith made the sport for YMCA to play when it was cold in the winter. they would use two peach baskets on each side of the court. Some of the original rules were changes such as in the original sport they could not bounce the ball. there were originally 13 rules 9 of which have been modified and the rest have been disregarded. The first game consisted of 18 players with nine players to a team. They would use a soccer ball because the YMCA did not have the money to buy a ball. The first competitive leagues were all local games accept so me times they would travel to play other teams. Now people all over the world play Basketball because it is easy you do not need equipment accept a hoop and a ball. Football

Distinguishes between an Annuity and a Perpetuity Essay

Essays on Distinguishes between an Annuity and a Perpetuity Essay ï » ¿Distinguish between an Annuity and a Perpetuity Annuities are payments of equal amount of money remitted over particular period of time. An annuity is therefore a fixed payment that is made for a specific number of years from one party to another. As a general rule, the term annuity is used to refer to ordinary annuity except when a different form of similar payment is being referred to. This implies that there are different forms of annuities as highlighted below due to the attributes of the payment and computation. In order to determine the specific value of various forms of annuities, there are simple to complex formulae of computation such as compounding. The complexity of the determination of the preset value of an annuity is usually dependent on the size of the entire value of the annuity. However, there are specific approaches that such computations can be given to solve the complexity issue. When referring to a general annuity, the timing of remittance is usually at the end of the specified unit period. One principle observation in annuities is that they are effected in a series following a specific frequency over the entire duration of remittance. To this end, annuities are treated differently from other forms of payments (Keown et al, 1998). Give some examples of annuities There are different types of annuities depending on various aspects of operating the annuity. Apart from a general annuity where remittances occur at the beginning of the year, the other annuities include the following. Firstly, a compound annuity is the type of an annuity where equal amounts of money are remitted for investment or savings purposes at every end of the period and allowing the money to grow. In such an annuity, the determination of the earnings obtained at the end of the savings period composed of the series of deposits can be computed through a mathematical formula. The technique used in this determination is a compounding equation that values the earnings of the distinct deposits until the end of the depositing period. The following formula is applied in the determination of a compound annuity; FVn of an annuity=PMT[(FVIFi,n-1)/i] Where FV = future value after growth period PMT = value of frequent annuity deposits i =annual interest rate n =total number of years Secondly, annuities due are the type of annuities whose actual dates of payments are brought forward by a year. In terms of actual date of remittance of many other forms of payments, it is supposed to occur at the end of every year but it is different in annuities due. The actual date of remitting the payments in annuities due is at the beginning of every payment period instead. It implies that in compounding the value of payments, an additional payment period is added. The following formula is applied; FVn(annuity due)=PMT[{(1+i)n-1}/i] (1+i)=PMT(FVIFAi,n)(1+i) Where, FVIFAi,n = Future-Value Interest Factor for an Annuity (multiplier used to calculate FV) Distinguish Between An Annuity And A Perpetuity Whereas an annuity has a specified duration of time during which payments are made, an annuity continues without a particular end. An annuity continues up to the end of the determined period by way of equal payments whereas perpetuity never ends. Reference Keown, A.J., Martin, J.D., Petty, J.W., Scott Jr., D. F. (1998). Impact Of Service Outsourced Functions On Financial Performance

Question: Discuss about the Impact Of Service Outsourced Functions On Financial Performance Of Organizations. Answer: Problem statement In recent years organizations have been looking for new ways of cost minimization and profit maximization(Baker, 2014). Organizations have adopted service outsourcing as part of itsstrategic management process(Wirtz, Jochen, and Christopher Lovelock., 2016). Service outsourcing is amanagement strategy of delegating non-core functions to a service provider (Lyson, 2013). Service outsourcing involves sharing risks with an independent service provider(Simpson, 2013). The benefits of service outsourcing can outweigh the demerits, but it may have certain draw backs(Van Horne, 2010). Organizations underestimate the extent to which service outsourcing affects its operations(Wirtz, Jochen, and Christopher Lovelock., 2016). The effect of service outsourcing reduces organization controls to its standards(Wu, Shwu-Ing, and Ting-Ru Lin, 2014). There are several types of service outsourced functions in organizations. It is difficult for managers to establish whether each of the outsourced service can influence financial performance(Simpson, 2013). Purpose and objectives of study The aim of the study is to establish the impact of service outsourced functions on financial performance of organizations. The specific objectives are: To find out the impact of outsourcing marketing services on financial performance of organizations. To establish the impact of outsourcing security services on financial performance of organizations. To identify the impact of outsourcing information technology services on financial performance of organizations. To establish the impact of outsourcing human resource services on financial performance of organizations. Research methodology A mixed methodology approach will be used which encompasses both qualitative and quantitative data. (Neuman, 2012). Literature review To understand the title of the study a review of theories and empirical facts will be done(Fink, 2006). The theoretical review of literature will cover the two main variables of the study. The empirical review will provide data related to outsourced services of human resource, information technology, security, and marketing services and performances. The information will be obtained from books, peer reviewed journals, websites, and reports(Flick, 2015). Research process and implementation The study will employ a mixed methods approach which uses both qualitative and quantitative research(Fink, 2006). The methods provide the best suitable answers to the study objectives. A panel to review secondary data will be formed to ensure valid information is obtained(Flick, 2015). A survey approach (interviews) will be adopted to obtain different opinions regarding the topic of the study. Top managers of organizations will be sampled purposively using non-probability sampling technique. Qualitative data collected will be analyzed qualitatively and report written(Neuman, 2012). Henry james and william dean howells Essay Example For Students

Henry james and william dean howells Essay Post-Civil War American Literature saw a transition from the prominence of romance to the development of realism. In the late 1800s, the United States was experiencing swift growth and change as a result of a changing economy, society, and culture because of an influx in the number of immigrants into America. (Spiller 35) Whereas authors previously sought to idealize human beings, fall in love with a dream, and then, reject the real man or woman who had inspired the dream, they now worked to accurately portray life and people as they really were. (Wagenknecht 68) Realists such as Henry James and William Dean Howells, two of the most prolific writers of the nineteenth-century, used typical realistic methods to create an accurate depiction of changing American lifeHenry James was one of five children of affulent, eccentric parents. While his birth in 1843 was in New York City, his parents were purposly rootless, and by the age of eighteen he had already crossed the Atlantic six times. He avoided participation in the Civil War because of a poor back and began a role which he would maintain throughout his life and writings, one of a detached observer rather than participant in the American social scene. (Matthiessen 14)The first phase of James writing begins when he is twenty-one, in 1864 and continues until 1881. He was extremely popular during this time, especially during after publication of a short story Daisy Miller, which is concerned with the destruction of a naive American girl by European mores. James continues the theme of placing Americans without sufficient social experience into the complex society and culture of Europe with The American, which chronicles a man whose finds himself unable to buy his way into French society. (Matthiessen 14)For Henry James, the years of 1882 to 1895 brought less success. His novels now took on a more political tone. (Matthiessen 15) In 1886, he published The Bostonians, regarding the feminist movement in New England. Here, he complained that women who wanted to become just like men were disregarding their own uniqueness. (Norton 616) The Tragic Muse, published in 1890, continues this trend as it contrasts art with politics. After these works failed commerically , James turned to the British stage; he found no greater success there. (Matthiessen 15) The period of James life recognized as the final phase, the one which Matthiessen calls the Major Phase, revolves around three novels with which James assured himself a place in American Literature. Released in 1902, The Wings of the Dove contrasts a rich young American with European fortune hunters that are ultimately shamed by the dying heroines tragedy.A year later, The Ambassadors, which James called ‘the best, ‘all round of my productions describes the initiation of an aging American into the relativistic ethics of the Old World in ‘huge iridescent Paris. The Golden Bowl verbosly analyses father-daughter and adulturous relations. (Matthiessen 16)Ultimately, James genius was recognized by those who share his craft. His works explore psychological subtlies; he is renown for his use of ambiguity and dramatic characterisation. While his works lack the elements of middle-class American life, impeding acceptance by the general public. James contribtutions to literature are still felt today, as he influenced such authors as Wharton, Joyce, Woolf and Faulkner. (Matthiessen 19)William Dean Howells, born in 1837, was the son of printer, and, because of this, his early life was devoted to the typecast word. He learned to set type before he was able to write, and many of his earliest composition came not from the pen, but rather from the press. Although his fathers lack of money prevented Howell from receiving a formal education, as a young boy he read a tremendous amount of material, providing a rich and diverse literary background for his later works. (Wagenknecht 1-2)Howells began his career by writing for a number of mid-Western newspapers. .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 , .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 .postImageUrl , .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 , .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6:hover , .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6:visited , .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6:active { border:0!important; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6:active , .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6 .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua92df1e7da00e97c0472cecb2ebdc7c6:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Pearl Harbor not a surprise Essay He first appeared in the January 1860 issue of The Atlantic Monthly, a periodical he would later become editor-in-chief of, with a poem, Andenken. That year, he also published an autobiographical work of Abraham Lincoln for the candidates campaign, which later won him an appointment as the American consulate at Venice. Howell returned to the United States in 1865 and worked for the Atlantic Monthly until 1881. (Wagenknecht 4)After this, Howells began his first true novels, which were mostly based on his own travel experiences. These works provided the literary basis for his later works that his newspaper poems and serials had not. This climaxed in his works which began after 1887, when he risked his career writing a letter to the New York Tribune urging a pardon for the so-called Chicago anarchists, some of whom were executed for killings during the Haymarket Square riot which they were not believed to have committed. After his plea, a string of Tolstoy-influenced novels were released by Howells, which include A Hazard of New Fortune and The Quality of Mercy.Howells, while opposing idealization, made his comic criticisms of society by comparing American culture with those of other countries. (Bradley 114) In his comic writings, Howells criticized American morality and ethics but still managed to accurately portray life as it happened. He attacked and attempted to resolve the moral difficulties of society by this rapid change. (Elliott 505)He believed that novels should should present life as it is, not as it might be. (Wagenknecht 31)In the process of doing this, Howells demonstrated how life shaped the characters of his novels and their own motives and inspirations. By concentrating on these characters strengths as opposed to a strong plot, he thematically wrote of how life was more good than evil and, in return, wanted his literature to inspire more good. On the other hand, Henry James judged the world from a perspective offered by society and history . (Matthiessen 74) He also separated himself from America to create an unbiased view of it as a spectator and analyst rather than recorder of the American social structure. (Spiller 169) He wrote from a perspective that allowed him to contrast American society with that of Europe by contrasting the peoples ideas. By contrasting social values and personal though about America in America, he presented to the people the differing motivational factors that stimulated the different social classes. (Bradley 1143) Howell and James managed to very formally portray America as it was while adding their own criticisms about it in an attempt to stimulate change.
